Our Technology

UNSW researchers have applied high performance material simulations to discover the phenomenon of Charge Modulated Electrocatalysis (CME). With certain graphene and graphene-analogue materials, this technique is being applied for both H2 formation and storage. A “new lever” for electrocatalytic activation is found in controlled modulation of excess electrical charge.

A dramatic enhancement in the efficiency of formation of hydrogen from water has been demonstrated using the CME technique on one the simplest, cheapest and most readily available of electrodes, glassy carbon. 

Discovery of charge-responsive materials and new spin-out applications of the technology is proceeding in real time through the high performance materials simulations carried out in the Integrated Materials Design Centre (IMDC), School of Engineering.
